The Profile of the Post-Covid Content Manager: Integrator, Flexible, Resilient, and with Strategic Vision

The Covid-19 crisis has created a situation in which companies have more responsibility than ever before. Therefore, companies’ new leadership must be more human and humbler, capable of putting people at the center because the pandemic affected the CEO and employees as well.

Now, the post-Covid managers’ profile must have some special characteristics like integrative, flexible, resilient, and strategic vision, among other competencies.

What to focus on?

In this way, if we study the new key issues that CEOs have had to deal with in the face of the pandemic. These include ensuring the safety and health of their team, establishing contingency plans for the coming months adapted to the development of events, and closely monitoring the financial situation, with a particular focus on working capital and financing. As we can see in these months, there are different CEOs that decide to raise the salary and give different extra rewards to the employees due to the conditions, motivating the employees and taking a good look view from the shareholders, news and the community in general.

Moreover, we want to highlight that nowadays, the CEOs need different plans to be prepared if something similar happens again (although we hope not), the business and the employees will know what to do.

Among the functions that will gain weight in the CEO’s work over the next 12-18 months are integrating, involving, and uniting people, diagnosing the evolution of the situation, and ensuring the company’s financial situation. If we speak about the short term, the principal question is taking care of the different challenges we face.

Also, regarding the approach to be used to improve the talent of the management team and the importance of the human resources team, the most important initiatives planned are the assessment and improvement plan, the search for external talent, and coaching.

Post-Covid CEO competencies

One of the main competencies highlighted in the study is strong and inclusive leadership with the ability to motivate, inspire and unite people.

Every CEO now needs to re-organize the strategic vision in the medium and long term to align the organization and define priorities because the Covid crisis changes all the markets, from the job market to the finance market.

Likewise, flexibility and change management will be another key competency in the post-Covid content manager profile as the market is fluid and continuous adaptability to change requires an organization with more shared knowledge and higher levels of delegation.

On the other hand, leading with values such as solidarity, closeness, humility, or optimism is another of the competencies highlighted in our study of the new CEO characteristics since, according to the study, “leading by example makes and legitimizes the leader.”

Along the same lines, resilience and adversity management are essential in the post-Covid context, as well as communication, the ability to listen and work as a team, leading in a network, in a transversal and multifunctional way.

Improving the decision-making process and efficiency and results in orientation are other key competencies. Finally, digital innovation in business models is indispensable, considering that the future is digital.

In conclusion

Nowadays, after all the problems related to Covid, we have seen a transformation in the CEO’s behavior. Before, they could be just a boss and be disconnected from the reality of the workers and only the “beautiful” face of the business. Now the manager must be a leader, working among the workers and demonstrating that they know how to work as another normal worker, showing a more human touch not only with the news.
